Chapter Ten

Tuesday

Texas

Kendra walked out of her office, and as she headed to her car, she heard a very annoying familiar voice.

“What's good, momma? You miss me?” Devon called out.

His voice reminded her of how egotistical he was, thinking that she'd fall for him and then trying to attack her when she didn't. She had warned him to stay away from her, and here he was lurking around. She wished she had her gun cause she'd shoot him dead where he stood.

“Boy, if you don't get the hell away from me, Ima leave a hole right in the middle of your underdeveloped forehead!” She started reaching in her purse, pretending to be grabbing a gun.

He pulled off and yelled, “I’ll be back, beautiful.”

Kendra shook her head and walked to her car. When she got in, she sighed and prayed that he wouldn't make her kill him.

She started her car and pulled off. She checked her mirror to ensure that he wasn't following her.

When she finally arrived home, John was out in the backyard, fixing the doors to their horse stall. He had his shirt off, and every muscle in his body was flexing. His thigh muscle blessed her sights as he bent down to grab his hammer. She turned her car off and unbuckled her seatbelt. She watched as John worked and moved. Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest as he turned and caught her staring. He gave her a smile that made her feel amazing. She laughed, “ The nerve of that young nigga thinking I’d give up the opportunity to be with this man.”

She looked at the diamond wedding band on her hand and laughed, “The fucking nerve!”

She got out and walked over to him, and gave him a kiss.

“How was your day, babe?” She asked as she hugged him.

She pulled back quickly, “ You need to bathe.”

“Yeah, love my funk too.” He said as he grabbed her up.

She screamed and playfully fought to escape his sweaty embrace.

He laughed and let her go, “So?”

She couched as she attempted to catch her breath, “It was okay.”

She knew that telling John about Devon would only cause him to act out, and she didn't need the trouble.

“I’m going in to take a shower. You wanna come?” She asked seductively.

“Wish I could. Gotta finish this up. Next time.” He replied as he patted her on her butt.

She pouted, “So why tease me like that?”

He laughed, “See you up at the house, lil lady.”

She shrugged, “okay then.”

She walked to the house; all thoughts of Devon were erased from her mind.

For three days, Devon called, sent flowers, and rode by the office a few times.

Bridget and Taye tried to convince her to call the police, but she refused.

“I ain't studded that lil bitch ass boy.” She told them.

Taye and Bridget shared their concern repeatedly, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears

It was tense at work and at home. It was hard trying to keep Troy from knowing as well as John finding out.
